Myrtle Hickson


WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — Services for Myrtle G. Hickson, 62, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Defiance, Ariz. The Rev. Gilbert will officiate. Burial will be on private family land in Deer Springs, Ariz. Visitation will 9-10 a.m. at the Catholic church.

Hickson died Sept. 2, 2011, in Fort Defiance. She was born July 6, 1949, in Fort Defiance into the Bitter Water People Clan for the Waters Edge People Clan.

Hickson graduated from Window Rock High School in 1967. She also attended a two year business school in Phoenix and attended Dinè College. Hickson was employed with Window Rock Elementary School for three years and retired from the Navajo Nation Police Department after 26 years of service. She was a longtime resident of the Fort Defiance and Window Rock Area and enjoyed her time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband Lawrence Hickson; sons Arlan Hickson and Lawrence M.B. Hickson; daughters Lisa Hickson, Melissa Hickson and Kimberly Gallen; mother Mary Ann Robbins; brothers Benny B. Robbins Jr, Leonard Robbins and Stanley Robbins; sisters Marjorie Frame, Victoria Birch, Charlotte Damon and Christine Hale and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father Benny B. Robbins Sr.; brothers Joseph Robbins and Franklin Robbins; sister Virginia Jones; nephews Irvin Jones and Merle Jones and granddaughter LeAnn Jones.
Pallbearers will be Lawrence M.B. Hickson, Arlan Hickson, Wendell Birch, Rodney Birch, Leonard Wauneka and Michael Blackman.

The family will meet at Fort Defiance Chapter House at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
